The choice of plastic keg
It always takes a lot of efforts for the breweries to have
a perfect beer, especially for the craft beer, normally it takes weeks or even
months efforts, and when you bring your perfect products to the consumer with
delight, maybe you need to consider how to fill your beer, in stainless steel
keg or plastic keg? cost wise, and also to protect your perfect product in
perfect quality for long time.
it’s an important decision sometimes, everybody want to
have as much as possible low cost for sure, but still nobody want to loss their
perfect beer, as it take so much efforts of them.
a lot of factors need to be considered by the breweries
when they choose which type of kegs for their beer, e.g. cost, safety, easy to
use, weight and transport, quality, shelf life, to keep the original
taste/flavor, etc… these make the choice difficult, but every breweries should
have their own priority for their perfect products, and from the comparison
below for the beer kegs, every breweries should be able to find their prefer
kegs to fit their demand for their perfect beers.
the benefits of stainless steel keg:
-
durable, a stainless steel keg can be used for many years
if with good maintenance.
-
safety, no explosion even if under high pressure
-
low cost (per glass of draft beer), as it’s reusable.
-
long shelf life, can prevent the O2 migrated into beer
and prevent the loss of CO2
-
can keep the original taste of beer, and prevent the flavor
loss from the beer
the disadvantage of stainless steel keg:
-
too heavy, transport cost increasing
-
easy to be stolen or lost, part of them can not be
returned.
-
expensive to buy a new stainless steel keg
-
need cleaning, drying, sterilization, etc…
-
possible chemical residue from the cleaning process.
-
big investment for cleaning line, big area to be needed
too
-
need good maintenance, especially for the sealing rings
and slight cracks caused by deformation, not easy to be detected.
-
beer contact with air and some O2 solved into beer during
filling
-
the filled beer can not be 100% used, the last glass
(normally about 500ml) will be lost
the benefits of one-way plastic keg:
-
lightweight, transport cost saving
-
one-way use, no stolen and lost issue
-
low cost to buy a new one-way plastic keg, easy for
breweries to boost their sales in peak season
-
no cleaning, drying, sterilization needed, no relative
investment for such process.
-
no chemical residue from the cleaning process
-
small area to be needed for filling process
-
no maintenance needed
-
for one-way keg without bag, beer contact with air and
some O2 solved into beer during filling; if one-way keg with bag, no O2 solved
into beer during filling
-
for one-way keg without bag, the filled beer can not be
100% used, the last glass (normally about 500ml) will be lost; but for one-way
keg with bag, the beer can be 100% used.
the disadvantage of one-way plastic keg:
-
only one time use, the cost per glass of draft beer is
higher than the stainless keg
-
the PET one-way keg can not stand high pressure, possible
to be exploded under high pressure and cause safety issue.
-
the barrier performance to both O2 and CO2 is not as good
as the stainless steel keg, the shelf life is shorter than the stainless steel
keg.
-
difficult to keep the original taste of beer as CO2 loss
as well the flavor loss.
-
possible small molecule migrated into beer, and react
with the chemical content in the beer, and cause the flavor/taste change of the
beer.
so, every type of keg has its benefits and its
disadvantages, it’s difficult to say which type of keg is the best, it depends
on different application for the kegs.
normally, for local market, stainless steel keg is much
better than the one-way plastic keg; for export market, considering the
returnable of the keg, relative cost, etc., the one-way plastic keg should be
better, but if long shipping time need long shelf life, high temperature need strong
keg, etc., then, some of the one-way plastic keg could be still inappropriate.
on the other hand, for small breweries, especially for
home breweries, it’s a fact that it’s not possible for them to have too much
investment to have a full automatic cleaning and filling line for the stainless steel keg, that way, the one-way plastic keg seems a better choice for them.
is there any keg which has all the benefits of both
stainless steel keg and plastic keg? so that it’s easy for most of the breweries
to choose the keg for their perfect beer? we can tell you: yes, there is one.
with many years research and development, we have a
plastic reusable beer keg, it’s the first launched reusable plastic keg all
over the world, it combine all the benefits of stainless steel keg and plastic
kegs: cost, safety, easy to use, weight and transport, quality, shelf life, to
keep the original taste/flavor, etc….. the core technologies including patent
high tech multi barrier technology for long shelf life, strong and enough
elongation of keg body for safety/no risk of explosion even under extremely
high pressure, special polymer to prevent any small molecule migrated into
beer, with the extremely high barrier performance together, to keep the
original taste/flavor of your perfect beer during the whole shelf life, etc…… with
such a highest quality kegs, and our
experts, we are sure that we can fit all your demands, no matter it’s IPA, Lager,
Stout, Ale... no mater it’s big breweries or small breweries, microbreweries,
or even home breweries … our reusable plastic beer keg should be able to
provide the best protection for your perfect beer.
